Named after the Unaka mountains in North Carolina where it was first discovered, Unakite is a metamorphic granitic rock containing lively pink feldspars and green epidote. Feldspars are a group of rock-forming minerals that crystallize from magma and are largely present in exclusive types of metamorphic rock, while epiodote is a calcium based mineral.
Unakite is formed when granite is altered by hydrothermal activity. Comprised of beautiful pink feldspars, green epidote and small traces of quartz, Unakite is only found in masses and not within crystal formations. It is a stone found within deformed rocks that are exposed through weathering and erosion.
Unakite is said to be a stone of balance and grounding. It is thought that Unakite is also used for recovery from major illness, while aiding in the growth of new skin tissue and hair. It is said to be an excellent help if you are having trouble sleeping and will encourage you to live in the present.
